Chanel channels masculine codes for BOY.FRIEND

While most brands are slimming down the dimensions of their watches Chanel is launching an oversized women’s watch, the BOY.FRIEND.

The watch takes its shape from the brand’s most delicate watch, the Première, adding what it describes as ‘masculine codes’ in celebration of the influence of the men in Coco Chanel’s life including Boy Capel, who supported the opening of her first boutique with a loan; Grand Duke Dimitri, who introduced her to Russian influences and the Duke of Westminster who is credited with introducing her to ultimate luxury.

The oversized watchcase is outlined with subtle bevelled edges in satin and polished finishes in clean lines. The opaline dial with a fine guilloché finish is highlighted by an oblong shape devoid of numerals.

Chanel is credited with reinventing femininity by adapting and twisting masculine styles, something evident in Coco’s own androgynous pose.

The Chanel BOY.FRIEND is available in two sizes with either quartz or manually wound mechanical movements on black, navy or red alligator straps. The case is formed from Chanel’s patented Beige Gold and various models feature diamonds, onyx and other precious materials.

The watch launches into Chanel boutiques on September 1 starting from £8,100.
