Catalogue unveiled for legendary watches auction

Watch enthusiasts and specialist retailers are licking their lips in anticipation of an auction of exceptional timepieces being held by Antiquorum in New York next month.

The sale of 269 items features some remarkable examples of Patek Philippe and Jaeger-LeCoultre in addition to an Omega Constellation that previously belonged to Rock ‘n’ Roll legend, Elvis Presley.

Prior to the sale on June 12, Antiquorum experts will preview the collection in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore, as well as New York.

The highlight of the sale is the Patek Philippe Ref. 5016 in yellow gold. Made in 2001, this is an extremely rare and important, astronomic, minute-repeating, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with one-minute tourbillon regulator, retrograde perpetual calendar, moon phases and a custom grey dial never before seen on a Ref. 5016. The watch has an estimate of $450,000-$650,000.

If your budget will only stretch to $400,000, Patek Phillipe Ref. 3974 in yellow gold may be your target. This fine timepiece, produced in 1992, is a fine, astronomic, minute repeating, self-winding 18K yellow gold wristwatch with perpetual calendar, leap year indication and moon phases. It is accompanied by the original Patek mahogany fitted box, spare solid 18K yellow case back, Certificate of Origin and setting pin.

Jaeger Le-Coultre fans will need sharp elbows and around $250,000-$350,000 to secure a Ref. 149.6.07.S Gyrotourbillon 1, made in a limited edition of 75 pieces in platinum. The exceptional and highly complicated 8 day going wristwatch, sold in 2008, features a visible Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 177 with inclined lightweight two-cage multi-axis spherical tourbillon, two barrels with sapphire covers, equation of time, perpetual calendar with retrograde month indication, leap-year indication, patented instant date display by means of two retrograde hands and power reserve indication. It is accompanied by the original fitted box, guarantee and 2 books.
