Bronze micro-knights sit on Roger Dubuis exclusive

Roger Dubuis has reimagined its 2013 tribute to Arthurian legend with a new limited edition piece called Excalibur Knights of the Round Table II.

Limited to just 28 pieces, the 45mm boutique exclusive features 12 engraved, sculpted bronze knights and swords 6.5mm high sat around a black jade table on the dial on a cobblestone-effect white gold surface; representing hour markers.

Lionel Favre, product design director, explains: “In this standout model, the motto of the mythical knights, ‘Courage and generosity’ reflects the Roger Dubuis approach to its craft. It is nobly represented by the artists and watchmakers working in close collaboration to create an alliance of both traditions.

“The sum of this precision and craftsmanship consists of detail that is so fine and intricate it can only be appreciated when examined through a jeweller’s eyepiece.”

The elaborate, craft-intensive dial required 10 months of development, research and trials. Each knight takes a full day to create through casting, engraving and hand finishing. Just two dials can be completed each month.

Inside the watch beats the same self- winding Calibre RD821 with 48-hour power reserve as the original.

The original timepiece from 2013 took inspiration – in enamel and decal – from the green and cream painted English Oak table that Henry VIII owned and featured knights crafted from gold.
