British watchmaker creates chrono to celebrate the life of F1 legend James Hunt

The all-new Omologato The Hunt Chronograph

British watchmaking business Omolagato has created a limited edition chronograph designed to celebrate the life of Formula 1 world champion James Hunt.

The driver would have been 70 this year had his life not been cut short by a heart attack in 1993, when he was aged just 46.

Omologato was established in 2015 with the aim being to create motorsport inspired timepieces designed to celebrate iconic locations, cars and figures.

The Official James Hunt Chronograph  is a limited edition watch of just 750 pieces that is dedicated to telling the story of a sporting legend.

Mr Hunt was a standout driver in a golden generation of Formula 1 racers. His 1976 World Championship winning season was immortalised in the 2013 film Rush.

Living a playboy lifestyle whilst going head-to-head with one of the world’s most-revered drivers Niki Lauda, James was renowned for delivering plenty of off-track entertainment and close wheel-to-wheel action throughout his career. The racing between Nikki Lauda and Hunt is among the most iconic racing rivalries in racing history.

A special feature film with James’s son, and racing driver, Freddie Hunt has been released in conjunction with the launch of The Official James Hunt Chronograph. Alongside talking about his father’s influence on his life and the design process of creating such an iconic timepiece, Freddie said that watch is “like having a little bit of James Hunt with you.” The Hunt family were heavily involved with the design of the Omologato watch throughout and were instrumental in the watch design.

A tribute to a legend, The Official James Hunt Chronograph is available with either a leather strap or a nylon/leather bonded bracelet, both models feature a matt black dial, James Hunts’ signature and the iconic red, blue and yellow stripes emblazoned across the face – the very same colours that appeared on James’s race helmet, a nod to Wellington College, where James was educated.

Two styles in stainless steel or IP-plated cases are available at launch and are limited to just 750 of each design, priced at £599.

They are available to order now and are priced at £599 for both Stainless Steel and IP Plated cases.

Freddie Hunt said: “My dad was a ‘rebel of the track’, a maverick playboy and a hero, not just to me but to fans across the world and now his legacy lives on through this wonderful exclusive new watch. It’s like having a little bit of James Hunt with you.

“I want to thank Omologato for offering me and the family the remit to immerse ourselves within the full design of The Official James Hunt Chronograph”

Omologato founder Shami Kalra said: “Omologato was founded a little over two years ago and in that time we have developed, designed and distributed watches to a significant number of motorsport enthusiasts globally.

“The partnership with The James Hunt Estate and the process of making this watch with The Hunt family has been another significant step on our journey. We are enormously proud to work with the family and present this watch which will make owners feel entwined with one of motorsports true greats – James Hunt.”
