British clockmaker Newgate will make its debut presentation of watches at Basel

British clockmaker Newgate will exhibit a range of watches at Baselworld for the first time this March.

Newgate is a family-run British watch and clock maker in Shropshire, and will present an affordable family of watches priced at under £200.

“I got frustrated not being able to find a watch brand that really innovated at a price point that was realistic for most consumers,” says chief-designer Jim Read. “With over twenty years of experience in creating our clocks, we knew we could do a great job of making watches. So, then the question was just, why not?”

The clockmakers opted for a round case made of steel housing a quartz movement in its Drumline family of minimalist 40mm pieces. They come on a Milanese bracelet or leather strap.

Newgate saw significant growth in the UK and US markets last year both through wholesale and ecommerce and are looking to broaden its international distribution, the company told WatchPro.

“We see Baselworld as an opportunity to strengthen our reputation within the watch industry, and to grow new relationships with international agents, distributors and retailers.” it concludes.
