British brand Meridian to launch at Salon QP

A new British watch brand called Meridian Watch Company is set to launch at Salon QP, where its watches will be revealed for the very first time.

The Norfolk-based company has so far managed to keep its timepieces under wraps – releasing only a sketch of how its models might look – but said it is hand-making its timepiece to "remind the world of England’s proud watchmaking heritage".

Meridian will run with a ‘Made in England’ slogan, and says it has manufactured components and sourced the materials for its timepieces from around the country. The leather and webbing straps used by the brand have been hand-stitched in Surrey, for example.

The watches will have Swiss movements, however, while the timepieces assembled in the UK.

A release from the brand said: “Meridian watches are intended to be worn, knocked about and enjoyed: the straps grow to the individual contours of your wrist, the sapphire crystal is coated on both sides by a British military contractor for unsurpassed clarity and toughness, and the case has been designed to handle a lifetime’s exposure to the elements, both in England and abroad.”

To brand will also package its timepieces with a complimentary passport holder from Smythson, while handmade tools also accompany every Meridian timepiece.
