Breguet celebrates 200th anniversary in Naples

Breguet celebrated its 200th anniversary in Naples last weekend with an event that paid homage to its first wristwatch – made for Queen Caroline Murat of Naples – as well as the 10th anniversary of its Reine de Naples ladies collection.

The brand invited guests from around the world to explore the palace of Reggia Di Capodimonte, originally built for Charles de Bourbon in 1738 and home Caroline Murat, who occupied the throne of Naples until 1815.

Alongside a lunch, Breguet also treated guests to an event hosted on the island of Capri, where the brand showcased a travelling exhibition of its Reine de Naples timepieces, which has so far toured Geneva, Asia, the US and parts of Europe.

Marc A. Hayek, president and chief executive of Breguet was in attendance and unveiled a new Reine de Naples special anniversary model, as well as a complete jewellery set, designed exclusively for the 200th anniversary celebrations.

The new timepiece is said to fit alongside Breguet’s Grandes Complications, striking every hour with two chimes repeated three times.

The decorated timepieces is set with 28 brilliant cut diamonds and 27 blue sapphires, while its striking hammers appear above the dial at 11 and one o’clock, while between them the diamond heart of a rose engraved in gold indicates the engagement of the hour striker.

The silvered gold dial and its flange are paved with 233 brilliant cut diamonds and 303 blue sapphires with different nuances, offering a subtle colour gradation.

The final flourish is its alligator strap with a folding clasp set with 26 diamonds.
