Vacheron Constantin has worked with American watch collector website Hodinkee to create a limited edition watch that was offered for sale online.
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 Limited Edition for Hodinkee was priced at $45,000, and the only way to buy it was to place an order online at Hodinkee.com.
Only 36 pieces were available but today, less than 24 hours after the watch was announced, the website says that the collection has sold out. Customers are invited to join a waiting list.
The partnership is a significant move for Richemont’s Vacheron Constantin, as it tiptoes towards allowing customers to buy its watches online.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Vincent Brun, president of Vacheron Constantin in North America, said that working online will widen the appeal of the top end Swiss watchmaker.
“We wanted to make this digital step in order to increase brand exposure in the world and reach out to watch lovers we did not necessarily speak to until now,” said Mr Brun.
It is estimated that Hodinkee.com receives around 1.7 million visits per month.
