BRANDS OF SIHH 2016: Roger Dubuis Blossom Velvet Pink

According to Roger Dubuis, 2016 is the year of the Diva, the brand’s archetypal female customer who would look to be well-served by the models that will be on show at SIHH.

The headline piece is likely to be the Blossom Velvet Pink, a watch of a style that perhaps better demonstrates the brand’s Poinçon de Geneve level of extreme finishing better than its more modern, masculine pieces.

The pink blooms and red leaves that weave their way around the dial on red gold stems are meticulously crafted from thick plates of Grand Feu enamel, hand-polished to reveal the translucent nature of the glass material. Each flower is then adorned with an invisible-set diamond at its centre.

While the colour palette and subject matter will certainly not appeal to all, the level of technical and artistic expertise is undeniable. The Blossom Velvet Pink, which is limited to 88 pieces, is perhaps the finest example of high jewellery watchmaking yet revealed by Roger Dubuis.
