Baume & Mercier honours American racing great

Baume & Mercier has teamed up with iconic motoring business Carroll Shelby Company to create a limited edition timepiece that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Carroll Shelby’s greatest racing achievement.

It was in 1965 that Shelby won the 1965 FIA International Championship of GT Manufacturers. In doing so, Shelby restored American racing prestige and introduced the iconic Cobra racing car to the world.

To mark the anniversary, Baume & Mercier has created two limited edition Capeland timepieces named after the Cobra, and carrying the Cobra snake logo on their second hand.

The pieces are inspired by the vintage 1948 mono-push-piece chronograph in the Baume & Mercier archive.

There will be 1,965 units made of the more affordable Capeland Shelby Cobra Steel Chronograph. The 44mm chronograph is powered by a Swiss-made self-winding movement. The dial with chronograph counters is inspired by the Cobra’s iconic dashboard, and is finished in Shelby’s Guardsman Blue racing colour with Superluminova blue emission to provide a soft evening glow.

The collectable Capeland ShelbyCobra 18k Red Gold Flyback Chronograph is limited to just 98 pieces. The rose gold piece houses a Swiss-made self-widing movement.

All watches in the Capeland Shelby Cobra collection arrive in special packaging with an exclusive miniature of the 427 Cobra, in addition to a custom brochure and card.
