Obama gifts Cameron a custom Shinola from Detroit

David Cameron is now the owner of a Shinola watch after being given the item as a gift by US president Barack Obama.

President Obama presented the watch to the Prime Minister on his tour of the UK this week. The customised Shinola is said to have the presidential seal engraved on the back of the case. The watch was presented in a customised Sinola box, which also contains the Presidential Seal.

All of Shinola’s watches are handbuilt at its factory in Detroit. Its investment in manufacturing has seen it bring a large number of jobs back to the city. The company is also renowned for its city clocks in the likes of Minneapolis and Chicago.

Earlier this year President Obama revealed that he owns a Shinola himself.

Shinola opened a store in London 18 months ago, marking its first foray into the capital.

The company, which is also famous for its bicycles, opened in Newburgh Street, close to Carnaby Street, at the end of 2014. At the start of this year it moved down the street into a larger space and building with a rich history in Foubert’s Place, which is situated right in the heart of Soho.
