A. Lange & Sohne expands production facility

German watch house A. Lange & Söhne has broken ground on an extension to its headquarters in Glashütte that will allow it to continue expansion after five years of constant growth.

The new annex will provide more than 11,000 square meters of work space for the company, and will allow it to expand its workforce of 500 people, which already makes it the largest employer in the Saxon town.

"The annex was long overdue. The new building will allow us to clearly improve production processes and working conditions," said Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid.

The two-part extension will bring much-needed space and will allow the company to reconfigure its production.

A skybridge across Altenberger Strasse will connect the new building with Lange II, currently the largest production floor.

On the side facing the street, the production of the movement components will be accommodated on three floors. The rear wing of the building provides watchmaker workshops on five levels.

The structural work for the extension is scheduled to begin this coming Spring and is supposed to be finished within two and a half years.
