50 Brands of Basel: Perrelet

Perrelet’s optical art turbine dials are a neat trick and never fail to impress, no matter what the subject matter they reveal beneath.

Sure it would be nice if the spinning turbines could contribute to the winding of the watch’s mainspring but, when running at full tilt, there are few, if any, purely aesthetic features in the watch industry that prove as eye-catching.

For Perrelet’s latest variation, the 10-blade turbine reveals a world map engraved into a Côtes de Genève-decorated plate.

This is a fitting illustration considering the watch features a GMT hand which tracks against a 24-hour chapter ring which is bisected blue and white for instant indication of night and day. The Turbine GMT’s automatic calibre features a 42-hour power reserve.
