Nomos 2018 collections, housing brand new date calibre, reach retailers

Wempe on New York’s Fifth Avenue hosted the world-wide launch of 2018 collections from Nomos Glashütte this week ahead of the watches, first seen at Baselworld, hitting retailers.

The NOMOS classics Tangente, Orion, and Ludwig have increased in size and received a new watch caliber, the neomatik date caliber (DUW 6101), enables a tailor-made date display.

Thanks to the innovative work of NOMOS’ in-house research and development department, the date can be quickly adjusted both forwards and backwards. And while the caliber is automatic and equipped with a date, the watches it powers still remain slender and elegant.

“The date simply shows what this caliber is capable of,” says designer Michael Paul, 44, who gave the model Tangente its update. “Thanks to the new movement, NOMOS’ designers were able to conceive the perfectly-fitting date for each model—far out on the edge of the dial where it traditionally and aesthetically belongs. The concentration of watchmaking skill amassed behind the dial is obvious. Instantly recognizable through the sapphire crystal glass back: neomatik date—well equipped, lavishly decorated; take, for instance, the raised embossing in gold on the rotor.”
