A gentleman’s Speedmaster chronograph bracelet watch has just sold for over seven times its low estimate and has broken all records for an Omega sold by the British-based auction house Fellows.
The 1960s timepiece had a pre-sale estimate of £9000 to £14,000 but a frenzy of bidding between internet and telephone bidders drove the price up to £90,528 including all fees.
The vintage watch is an Omega Speedmaster in a stainless steel case with a tachymeter bezel, referenced 2998-1, which is an early number. It has a signed manual wind calibre 321 and a chocolate brown dial with luminous baton hour markers, and subsidiary recorder dials to three, six and nine.
Steven Yambo, senior specialist from the Watch Department at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “We are over the moon to have broken yet another house record at Fellows. With the sale of this stunning Speedmaster it rounds up a very successful year for the Watch Department at Fellows as we head toward the Christmas period. The chocolate brown dial is extremely rare and we knew it would entice bidders, however we had no idea our house record would be broken.”
